Prayer & Reflection
A short reflection and prayer for this month
December
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6
December comes wrapped in noise and glitter, yet beneath it all many of us feel the weight of the season more than its warmth. Crowded shops, busy schedules, and expectations can overshadow the quiet ache of loneliness or the memory of those no longer with us.
But in the hush of Advent, we are invited to remember a truth that does not shift with the calendar: God is not distant. The story of His coming is not about a single date, but about a reality that remains: Emmanuel, God with us.
In the longest nights, His presence is our light.
In the coldest winters, His love warms and sustains.
He meets weary hearts with hope, burdened minds with peace, and those moving through the month one day at a time with steadfast grace.
Advent teaches us to wait, to hope, and to hold fast because Christ has come, Christ is with us now, and Christ will come again.
Lord of promise and fulfilment,
as we wait in this Advent season,
fill our hearts with hope, peace, joy, and love.
Remind us that You are near,
not a distant God, but Emmanuel,
born into our world to bring salvation and light.
May we carry that light into every place of darkness
and prepare room in our hearts
for Christ this Christmas.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
