Wedding

A covenant of love, blessed by grace.

“Marriage is honourable in all”

Hebrews 13:4a

Getting married is one of the biggest life decisions you will make and there is something special about getting married in church. Taking your vows before friends, family and God adds a spiritual dimension to your marriage with God’s blessing. Although there are some legal criteria which must be met to marry in church, the service can be tailored to reflect the couple and the story of their relationship.

Why choose a church wedding?

Getting married in church is about more than tradition -  it is about making a commitment in the presence of God, supported by prayer, scripture, and the love of a community that surrounds you.

At St Michael the Archangel Church, we offer:

  • A sacred setting:  Exchange vows in a holy space steeped in history and meaning.
  • A spiritual foundation:  We believe in God’s presence and faithfulness in every stage of life, and we pray His blessing over your future together.
  • A personal ceremony:  Our clergy will work closely with you to plan a service that reflects your relationship, faith, and hopes for the future.
  • A lifelong journey:  Your wedding day is the beginning of a shared path, and we are to support you on the day, and into your life together.

Who can get married in church?

You can be married in a Church of England parish church if:

  • One of you live in the parish.
  • You have a connection through family, worship, or past events (like baptism).
  • You are willing to establish a connection through attending church regularly for a time.

If either of you has been previously married, please speak to us, and our clergy can have a confidential conversation with you about the possibilities.

Planning your day

We are here to help you make your day truly special, with guidance every step of the way.

We will help with:

  • Choosing readings and hymns.
  • Planning the Order of Service.
